Tragedy in Sargodha: Blasphemy Allegations Lead to Violence

Greetings to all in the mighty name of Jesus. Today, on May 25, 2024, we are met with sorrowful news from Sargodha, Pakistan.

An angry mob, fueled by accusations of blasphemy, has attacked a person and vandalized his home in Mujahid Colony. This tragic event unfolded on Saturday when enraged individuals stormed the man’s house, destroyed his belongings, and set a shoe factory within the premises ablaze. The chaos didn’t end there—tires were burned, and electricity installations in the area were damaged.

In this heartbreaking incident, a Christian family is accused of burning the Quran. The illiterate and violent mob responded by killing an elderly man from the accused family, striking him with bricks. The mob has surrounded the entire town, harassing the innocent and impoverished Christians residing there.

Where Is the International Outcry?

This raises a pressing question: where are the voices of so-called Christian countries? Why do they remain silent on the plight of Christians in Pakistan? These nations offer asylum to Muslims but seem to have no room or compassion for Pakistani Christians who truly need it. Why is this the case?

The Need for Justice and Support

A curfew has now been imposed, but the damage is already done. The mob’s violent actions, including setting a Christian-owned factory on fire, are based on false allegations of blasphemy. The two brothers who owned the shoe factory are now victims of a grave injustice.

Christian teachings do not advocate for the burning of any religious texts. This accusation is a painful reminder of the severe challenges faced by Christians in Pakistan.

As we reflect on this incident, let us pray for peace and justice. Let us also urge international communities to stand up for the rights of persecuted Christians in Pakistan and around the world.
